Zebunnisa Hamid is a film and screen studies scholar, and teaches in the Comparative Literature and Creative Arts (CLCA) program. She completed her Ph.D. in Film Studies from SOAS, University of London.
Her work explores gender and urban space on screen, alternative filmmaking, and questions around film production and circulation. She's particularly interested in how streaming platforms and digital media are reshaping film cultures in South Asia and beyond, and is currently working on a book about New Pakistani Cinema.
Alongside her academic work, Zebunnisa has been involved in film production. She trained as a film editor and worked as a production consultant on Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist. She has also served on Pakistan’s Oscar Committee to select the country’s official entry for the Academy Awards.
