The purpose of the research was as follows: 1) To understand the role played by social norms with dishonesty; 2) To examine the relationship between the perception of prescriptive social norms of different types (consequentialist, deontic, etc.) with descriptive norms and behaviour. 3) To examine how prescriptive social norms and sanction mechanisms for transgressions of social norms vary according to social distance and in societies with complex structures of extended family networks
